Interfinity — Gravitational Waves

Gare du Nord
Sunday, 15 March
17:00

Interfinity turns its gaze upwards—to exoplanets and the cosmos. The festival tells a continuous storyline, from the origins of humanity to the distant worlds beyond our solar system. Musically, the journey leads from the Baroque era to the modern age and culminates in a grand highlight: a production about exoplanets in the Messe Halle, developed in collaboration with the NCCR PlanetS research focus and performed by the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
At Gare du Nord, electric guitarist Yaron Deutsch meets the legendary violinist Irvine Arditti—two exceptional musicians who have shaped the repertoire of contemporary music for decades. The title refers to gravitational waves—those disturbances in spacetime triggered by extreme cosmic events—and here symbolically evokes the intensity and radiance of this encounter. Between electrical impulses and the most delicate sonic textures, a concert unfolds that seeks the cosmic within music: movement, energy, transience. Exquisite sonic gestures, dense textures, and experimental soundscapes define this evening for violin and electric guitar. The composers Rebecca Saunders, Zeynep Toraman, Kelley Sheehan, Lisa Illean, and Sarah Nemtsov open up very different perspectives on fragile energy, silence, and perception: Saunders with highly concentrated sonic precision, Toraman with conceptually finely calibrated intensity, Sheehan with expanded and impulsive layers of sound, Illean with floating, transparent spaces, and Nemtsov with strikingly structured, energetic trajectories. Together, they create a multifaceted panorama of contemporary chamber music.
Tickets are CHF 45 (CHF 25 for students).
