Interfinity — Panel: Space Exploration

Novartis Pavillon
Tuesday, 17 March
19:30

Interfinity turns its gaze upwards—to exoplanets and the cosmos. The festival tells a continuous storyline, from the origins of humanity to the distant worlds beyond our solar system. Musically, the journey leads from the Baroque era to the modern age and culminates in a grand highlight: a production about exoplanets in the Messe Halle, developed in collaboration with the NCCR PlanetS research focus and performed by the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
This public panel discussion will address the future of space exploration. Among the guests are Michel Mayor, Professor of Astronomy, co-discoverer of the first exoplanet in 1995 and Nobel Prize laureate in Physics; Raphaël Domjan, adventurer and entrepreneur (SolarPlanet), who between 2010 and 2012 became the first person to circumnavigate the globe aboard a boat powered exclusively by solar energy; as well as Prof. Dr. Jan Wörner, the former director of the European Space Agency (ESA).
The discussion will explore the future of space exploration and exploration in a broader sense, the role of private actors, and the question of whether—and how—humanity might one day live on another planet.
The panel will be moderated by Nelly Riggenbach. The discussion will be in English. An apéro will follow the discussion.
Admission is free.
