The Sardinian star trumpeter Paolo Fresu and the bandoneon virtuoso Daniele di Bonaventura have been playing as a very special duo for years, bringing together these two seemingly very disparate instruments, creating music full of poetry and intimacy. Sardinian Fresu and his mainland Italian compatriot di Bonaventura don't need much to circumnavigate an entire emotional world. In di Bonaventura's hands, the bandoneon is transformed into a sound generator with an enormous range and diverse sounds. Fresu counters this with his familiar, soft trumpet sound and intones his cantilenas in such a reserved, economical, and rousing way that they soften stones. The music expresses joy and pain, defiance and sadness, and mischievous humor, all rolled into one...
