Jazzy Christmas — Fabian Willmann Trio / Silje Nergaard

Fabian Willmann works at the intersection of jazz, experimental, popular, and minimal music. As a saxophonist and composer, he explores new forms of musical expression and interdisciplinary collaborations and is currently working on a manifesto for “new simplicity.” Willmann inherited his grandfather's saxophone at age 10 and soon knew that he wanted to devote his life to music. He studied jazz saxophone at the Basel Academy of Music and, as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), at New York University. At the same time as studying saxophone, he studied musicology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. Numerous concerts and tours have taken him to Europe, the United States, Japan, China, South Korea, Nepal, Uganda, and South Africa. Willmann released his debut album “Balance” in April 2022, performing in a trio with Jeff Ballard and Arne Huber.
The second act on this evening will consist of Silje Nergaard (vocals), Helge Lien (piano), Fin Guttormsen (bass), and Jarle Vespestad (drums). The phalanx of Norwegian jazz singers—though the word “jazz singers” shouldn’t be taken too literally—is legendary. Nergaard has been their figurehead for many years. She is one of the most successful European jazz singers. Since her debut album “Tell Me Where You're Going,” which reached no. 7 on the Norwegian pop charts in 1990, she has become an integral part of the cross-genre Scandinavian music scene. She is one of very few jazz protagonists who also enjoy great popularity in the pop world, because she is not blinded by any kind of blinkers. The Norwegian singer with the gentle voice is known for her soulful perfectionism and for the serious reflections on life in our world that she expresses in her songs. On her new album “Tomorrow We'll Figure out the Rest,” Nergaard has composed a collection of beautiful melodic songs inspired by classic jazz standards. Songs about life and love—universal themes that we can all identify with.
Tickets are CHF 34.10-69.80.
