Jugendkulturfestival 2023

Various Locations

It has been 25 years since the first Jugendkulturfestival (JKF; Youth Culture Festival) Basel, the biggest noncommercial platform for youth culture in Switzerland, turned Basel’s city center on its head. Whether you are punk, hip-hopper, nerd, hipster, skin, metalhead, emo, hippie, goth, raver, skater, rocker, indie, psychobilly, or something completely different—you are welcome!
The JKF festival, which takes place every 2 years, offers a professional platform for performances by young artists from the Basel region, north-western Switzerland, and neighboring countries. The JKF promotes the initiative of the performers and reflects the colorful diversity of their cultural work. The artists do not collect a pay, and the visitors can enjoy their performances for free. Within the framework of the JKF, around 1,500 contributing artists in the realms of music, dance, theater, sports, literature, DJ, and freestylers will be appearing on various stages throughout the city center, including at Barfüsserplatz, Theaterplatz, Klosterhof, Literaturhaus, Elisabethenplatz, Theater Basel (small stage and foyer), Pyramidenplatz, Münsterplatz, and the bird’s eye jazz club.
About 50,000 visitors and over 170 helpers will transform the city into a vibrant melting pot of youth culture. They are still looking for helpers, so if you want to get involved, contact them at info@jkf.ch. Check out their website for a complete list of events and times.
