Kammerorchester Basel — Bach Worlds

He never left his environment—Johann Sebastian Bach spent his entire life in the North-East of Germany: Eisenach, Köthen, Lüneburg, Weimar, Arnstadt, and Leipzig. In this environment, however, he managed to systematically absorb all the arts of composition, to study everything that exists—all styles, genres, and composers—in great detail. And he also understood how to combine works: he wrote different works for his respective positions (as court conductor in Köthen or as Thomaskantor in Leipzig). At the time, he was considered old-fashioned and forgotten, until he was rediscovered by Mendelssohn Bartholdy. And since then he has been the ultimate composer of classical music for many of us. He has summarized and rearranged everything. He became a fixed star and the fundamental control point of all the music that had come before him. Which Julia Doyle, the English soprano and internationally sought-after baroque specialist, and the Norwegian star violinist Vilde Frang enjoyed. And roughened. And charged with their inner worlds—their Bach worlds.
Tickets are CHF 30-90 for adults and half price for youths and students.
