Kammerorchester Basel — Belcanto

“Belcanto” (Beautiful singing) originated—of course—in Italy. That was almost 400 years ago, and singers were soon outdoing each other with highly virtuoso coloraturas, leaps, and trills, with a tone that was as pure as it was fine, and which was also dynamically totally flexible. And today? There is Regula Mühlemann. The Lucerne native, who has long since ceased to be a shooting star, but rather a fixed star, is afraid of nothing and no one. She likes to take risks, to explore the limits of what is possible. Singing a high note really quietly—does your voice then change, or does it not? "Such moments can be very effective," she says, "and also very touching." Because the audience holds its breath every time and gets excited. And they notice: Something very special is happening on stage now.
Mühlemann can do everything and embodies many roles, from tender naivety and boundless pride to dark tragedy deep in the soul. And now she says: "Beauty is secondary. What counts is character, charisma, personality, and authenticity. I'm not here to be perfect, but to trigger emotions." In this concert with the Kammerorchester Basel, the program includes works by Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Léo Delibes, Gaetano Donizetti, and Giuseppe Verdi.
Tickets are CHF 24-95 for adults and CHF 16-48 for youths and students.
