Kammerorchester Basel — Finally Brahms

The music of Johannes Brahms still offers new territory for the Kammerorchester Basel to explore, such as his Symphony No. 3. Even at the premiere 140 years ago, the audience was captivated by Brahms' "Third." The symphony begins with a deceptive maneuver. It pretends to be undecided about how to begin. And then, from a succinct little motif, a world of diverse characters develops, cleverly combined, played around with, and varied. With it, Brahms is free; he steps out of the shadow of Beethoven and finds his own path, and the new work shares only the outer shell with Beethoven's symphonies. Also on the program are Beethoven’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 in C minor and Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ Andante Festivo for strings and timpani from 1939.
Tickets are CHF 32-95 for adults and half-price for students.
