Kammerorchester Basel — Next
In this program, Kammerorchester (Chamber Orchestra) Basel presents a concerto for reconciliation: after Brahms had interfered in the marriage of his violinist friend Joseph Joachim in a semi-abusive manner, he gave him the most beautiful double concerto of all time as a gift to make amends. The two performed it together and were once again one heart and one soul. The program also includes a symphony of a 15-year-old: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was later even a little embarrassed by the lightness of his first symphony (completely unnecessary!). And a concerto as the fruit of a honeymoon: After he had married his beloved Cécile, Mendelssohn thought of this piano concerto, about which his friend Robert Schumann said: “It's like shaking a tree, the ripe, sweet fruit falls without further ado.” The three pearls of lightness are presented by three rising stars: conductor Aurel Dawidiuk (who is in his early 20s), cellist Samuel Niederhauser (mid-20s), and violinist Dmitry Smirnov (late 20s). When classical music produces artists of such caliber, we need not fear for the future.
Tickets are CHF 32-95 for adults and CHF 16-48 for students.
