Kammerorchester Basel — Toxic

In Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera “Le Nozze di Figaro,” Susanna and Figaro are a servant couple. They want to get married. Then the lascivious Count Almaviva comes along, sets his eyes on the bride, and the complications take their course. It is a nasty story full of drive and lies and desire, wrapped up in such beautiful music. And not just one vicious character behaves like Rumpelstiltskin, but a whole horde. The material comes from Beaumarchais, various rulers found it disgusting (because it was apt), it was banned and performed and banned again and then set to music by Mozart.
The opera, in which the power of the nobility is called into question, was well received, even by the emperor. And yet no one had the slightest idea of the social changes that were looming and would explode three years later in the French Revolution of 1789. People were still delighted by the musical irony, comedy, and gallantry that Mozart poured into the libretto. It still shocks and delights us today. Kammerorchester Basel along with the Basler Madrigalisten choir and numerous soloists will perform a concert version of the opera.
Tickets are CHF 40-110 for adults and half-price for youths and students.
