“Perseverance”—perseverance and belief in the future were sorely needed to survive the last few years as a musician. Keenan Ahrends takes his audience on a very personal journey through a difficult time of loneliness and individual wandering. The well-rehearsed rhythm group consisting of the band leader with his haunting, characteristic language; the sensitive and expressive bassist Romy Brauteseth; and the drummer Sphelelo Mazibuko, who knows how to color the space that the band creates with his brushes, meets the legendary saxophonist Domenic Landolf and the powerful trumpeter Lukas Thoeni. The top-class quintet of the South African bandleader and guitarist knows how to sensitively preserve the intimacy from which Ahrend's compositions thrive.
