Kulturtreppe — Who is Gina

MUKS Museum Kultur & Spiel Riehen
Friday, 05 July
20:00

For four evenings, the “Kulturtreppe” (culture stairs) will convert the yard of the MUKS into an open-air concert venue with bands and voices from the region.
On this evening, Kulturtreppe 2024 will host Who is Gina, a Basel-based cover combo that loves the great R'n'B hits from Nina Simone to Whitney Houston and Beyoncé and brings them to the stage. A musically tricky undertaking, were it not for the gifted singer Annie Goodchild (aka I Used To Be Sam), who knows how to interpret well-known songs in a new guise. The American-born singer has lived in Basel for around 10 years and has been touring for a long time with the successful YouTube project Postmodern Jukebox and her solo projects. Under the new name I Used To Be Sam, she is currently on the road with her most personal work to date, which addresses the topic of TRAs (Trans Racial Adoptees) with unconventional, immersive pop.
In between, however, she celebrates her favorite R'n'B hits with Who is Gina. The band, which is made up of top-class musicians from various well-known Basel formations, ensures that no eye remains dry and no dancing leg remains still. Georg Dillier (bass/Anna Rossinelli), Cédric Vogel (Hammond/Sam Himself), Benjamin Noti (guitar/Steff La Cheffe and others) and Florian Haas Schneider (drums/La Nefera) and Annie Goodchild will make Friday at the Kulturtreppe an unforgettable and musically outstanding party night.
