La Cetra Barockorchester — Spiritus Vivaldi

Martinskirche
Thursday, 14 September
19:30

The Spanish countertenor Carlos Mena with his expressive voice, a long-time musical friend of La Cetra, will conduct La Cetra and present famous sacred works as well as instrumental concertos by the Italian grand master Antonio Vivaldi. Mena is not "only" an accomplished singer, but a comprehensively educated musician in the realm of 18th century music. In addition to his singing career, he is also a busy conductor of symphony concerts with leading orchestras in Spain and Portugal.
For the opening of La Cetra's season in Basel, Mena now assumes both functions—that of soloist and that of spiritus rector in a beautiful Vivaldi evening. In addition to two string concerti, sacred works will be performed that focus on episodes from the Passion story and the mourning for the body of Christ. In the "Nisi Dominus," on the other hand, devotion to God is sung about first and foremost—for without His help, according to Psalm 127, we can succeed in nothing. Finally, with a praise of the Trinity, Vivaldi brings this composition to a joyful conclusion and the contemplative concert to a cheerful end.
Tickets are CHF 20-75 for adults and half price for students.
