In accordance with an old tradition, mainly from England and the USA, La Cetra has regularly performed with amateur singers from Basel and the surrounding area since 2012, sometimes also with local schools. During the rehearsal phase and through making music together and the associated human exchange, a deep experience arises that conveys the power of music even more intensively than just listening to it as part of a single concert.
In 2022, they will be guided by Schiller's "Ode to Joy," which contains the famous words about the peaceful connection of all people that have gained urgent importance especially in today's time. After the great success with Beethoven's Symphonies No. 2 and No. 8 in 2020, they are now venturing into the Symphony No. 9 under the direction of Andrea Marcon and working on this work with enthusiastic amateur singers. Of course, Marcon attaches importance to aspects of historical performance practice in this well-known piece, so that Beethoven's revolutionary symphony will sound familiar in an unusually fresh color, but will also sound completely new.
