La Cetra Barockorchester & Vokalensemble — Johannespassion

Martinskirche
Wednesday, 13 March
19:30

Bach's “St. John Passion” was premiered in Leipzig on Good Friday 1724, which means exactly 300 years before this performance! On the occasion of this anniversary, La Cetra will be revisiting this complex work. Along with Vivaldi, Monteverdi, and Händel, Bach one of the main pillars in the repertoire of the La Cetra ensembles and their artistic director Andrea Marcon.
One should return to the important works of art, literature, and music every few years, because their greatness lies not least in the fact that they appear in a different light each time. Depending on the context of life in which we currently find ourselves, we may discover a new meaning. In terms of form, the musical requirements, and the unusual tonal language, the “St. John Passion” is considered more experimental and even more exciting than the “St. Matthew Passion.” The interpretation of the Swiss tenor Jakob Pilgram, who accompanies La Cetra as an evangelist through the last days of Christ's life, will be an exciting addition to the concert. The other solo roles are interpreted by an excellent ensemble of soloists, including Christian Wagner, Mirko Ludwig, Sara Mingardo, and Shira Patchornik.
Tickets are CHF 25-85.
