Andreas Staier is without doubt one of the most accomplished harpsichordists of our time. His meticulous sound and background research across different eras have had a lasting impact on approaches to historical performance practice. On this day, the former lecturer at the Schola Cantorum will return to Basel and take on the dual role of soloist and orchestra leader at the concert in St. Martin's Church with La Cetra. Music from the north and east of Germany at the transition from the late Baroque to the early Classical period will be heard. After the overture "La Galante" by Georg Philip Telemann, who lived in Hamburg for a long time, Staier will play the Harpsichord Concerto in F minor by Georg Anton Benda, who came from Bohemia but spent large parts of his life in Gotha, Thuringia. One of his musical companions was Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach—born in Weimar and active in Leipzig and Berlin, he succeeded his godfather Telemann as municipal music director in Hamburg in 1768. After his Symphony in C major, the concert concludes with a sonata by Johann Friedrich Fasch and the Harpsichord Concerto in A major by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Tickets are CHF 20-70.
