La Cetra — Himmlisch! (Heavenly!)

Martinskirche
Thursday, 20 March
19:30

Anyone who attended La Cetra’s concert performance of Vivaldi's "Il Giustino" in February 2023 in the Martinskirche will certainly remember the impressive aria accompanied by the salterio—a box zither that was very popular in Italy and Spain in the 18th century and was regularly used in both sacred and secular works. The first written sources on the baroque salterio, which can be traced back to the medieval psalterio, date to the 1720s. You can hear an original example from this period (built in Rome by Michele Barbi in 1725) in this concert: Franziska Fleischanderl—the specialist when it comes to the salterio—came across the instrument by chance and has since devoted herself to the theoretical and practical research of the baroque find. To mark the 300th anniversary of the instrument, La Cetra is presenting a program that for the first time makes it the main star. You will hear original compositions as well as arrangements by Florido Ubaldi (the first great salterio virtuoso), Vivaldi, Porpora, and many other composers of the 18th century. The soprano will be the wonderful young Swiss Chelsa Zurflüh, who is already celebrated for her "perfectly controlled and stylistically adept voice," her energy, and her stage presence.
Tickets are CHF 25-75.
