La Cetra — Music for Peace

La Cetra's 25th anniversary season opens with a festive choral concert in the Martinskirche. George Friedrich Händel's “Te Deum & Jubilate” was his first work commissioned by the English royal family, written for the celebration of the Peace of Utrecht in 1713. And Händel enjoyed great success with it: Queen Anne was so taken with his work that following the performance in St. Paul's Cathedral in London, she promised him a lifelong pension of 200 pounds a year. The “Coronation Anthems” are Händel's famous four anthems for the coronation of the English monarch, first performed in Westminster Abbey in 1727 for George II. Händel, then a newly naturalized Briton, also left a lasting impression with the “Coronation Anthems”—they have been sung at every coronation since then, most recently the one of Charles III in 2023.
The first concert of La Cetra's anniversary season under the direction of Andrea Marcon also marks the opening of the second festival edition of “Erasmus klingt!”.
Tickets are CHF 25-85 for adults and half-price for youths and students.
