With his unique mix of Cuban rhythms, African tradition, and modern jazz, Roberto Fonseca sets off a musical firework that puts his listeners in an ecstatic atmosphere. The current album “La Gran Diversión” is a masterpiece that celebrates Fonseca's creative genius. With pulsating rhythms, virtuoso piano improvisations, and an irresistible energy, the artist, together with his eight-person salon orchestra, takes you to Cuba in the 1930s; a world full of joy and musical diversity.
Fonseca, born in Havana in 1975, is considered the most important Cuban pianist of his generation. In 1990, when he was just 15 years old, he performed at the International Jazz Plaza Festival and delighted the specialist press. Since the beginning of his international career, the musician has amazed audiences and critics alike with his unique combination of virtuosity, charisma, and authenticity. He accompanies old heroes such as Omara Portuondo, Guajiro Mirabal, and Cachaito Lopez and has played a role in the development of current Cuban music that can hardly be overestimated. Fonseca has also played with American jazz stars Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, and Brian Blade.
