Hotel Schützen, Rheinfelden
Monday, 08 April
20:15

The Mark Sherman Quartet brings a deeply rooted post-bop approach to a program of original compositions and standards that convincingly advances the art form with a high degree of invigorating musicality. The music is relentlessly energetic and full of incredible improvisations resulting from the musicians' individual skills and collective interactivity.
In addition to the recently released recording "A Bright Light," Mark Sherman has recorded 21 CDs as a leader and over 150 CDs as a sideman. His latest recording "My Other Voice" was a huge success with over 7 million streams on Spotify. Sherman was honored to represent the United States on a U.S. Department of State/Jazz Ambassadors tour abroad with over 30 concerts and workshops in Southeast Asia. A 15-year professor of jazz studies at the Juilliard Jazz Program, he continues the jazz tradition through his playing and training on piano and drums.
Over the course of a career spanning more than 40 years, Joe Magnarelli has established himself as one of the leading trumpeters, improvisers, composers, and educators in jazz. He is an amazing blend of the old and new schools of music and carries on the torch of Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Durham, and all the other amazing artists on the trumpet. "Mags," as he is often called, has a sound all his own. His voice is powerful on both trumpet and flugelhorn. He is a sought-after top-class trumpet stylist with a warm, open sound and outstanding technique.
