Markus Stockhausen Group “Tales”
The four improvising musicians of the Marcus Stockhausen Group—trumpeter Marcus Stockhausen, pianist Jeroen van Vliet, cellist Jörg Brinkmann, and drummer Christian Thomé—are among the best in their field and now present their new new triple album “Tales.” Joy of playing, masterful ability, colorful compositions, inspired improvisations, and intuitive playing combine to form a harmonious whole, eliciting unexpected sounds from the instruments. All musicians also use electronic extensions of their instruments. They are at home in both classical music and jazz and place high demands on their musical culture, always looking for that “magical moment” on stage. Through their often-intuitive interplay, they bring inner worlds to life with musical sensitivity. They throw the themes to each other like balls—sometimes complex, virtuoso sequences of notes or chords that are lively and jazzy, then again harmoniously melodic, calm, and inward, creating a captivating musical experience.
Trumpeter and composer Stockhausen is known for straddling the borders between musical genres. For 25 years, he gave concerts with his father, the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, who wrote many works for him. He gives concerts as a trumpeter internationally and has composed works for the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta, the Metropole Orkest, and the Hamburger Symphoniker, among others. Over the years, he has published more than 90 CDs and received numerous awards. He is interested in “transformation through sound.”
