Since 1995, the pianist Robert Kolinsky and his team endeavor to bring renowned artists to Basel for an annual classical music festival to popularize the works of Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. The festival, which is regarded by the media as “the smallest but finest of its kind,” this year includes five concerts.
The opening night of this year’s Martinů Festival offers a concert entitled “Mene Tekel.” The program includes two works by Miloslav Kabeláč, “Two Fantasias” for organ, op.32, and Symphony No. 8 "Antiphons" in five movements and four interludes for soprano, choir, percussion and organ, op.54). Also on the program are three works by Martinů, including “Four Songs about Maria” for mixed choir a capella, H.235; “Vigil” for organ, H.382; and “The Mountain of the Three Lights” for male choir and organ, H.349.
Tickets are CHF 45.
