Mizmorin Chamber Music Festival. Exile — Songs of Exile
The Mizmorim Chamber Music Festival, which takes place in Basel from January 29 to February 2, 2025, is dedicated to the human theme of exile: 120 million people worldwide are on the run, 1.5% of the world's population are displaced persons. Jews have always been confronted with exile, emigration, diaspora, and galut (the forced life outside the "Promised Land" of Israel). Under the guiding principle of exile, Mizmorim presents around 30 artists and ensembles, two world premieres and several Swiss premieres.
All four composers presented in this program lived in America for a time, but only Antonín Dvořák moved to the "New World" voluntarily. Erich Itor Kahn, Hanns Eisler, and Kurt Weill were forced to emigrate due to the persecution of Jews in Germany and had to build a new artistic existence for themselves in the United States. Their works will be performed by the Gringolts Quartet together with Lawrence Power (viola), Silke Gäng (vocals), Marco Scillironi (piano), Ema Grčman (violoncello), and Denis Linnik (piano).
Tickets are CHF 35.
