Mobility Week (Mobilitätswoche)

As a part of the European Mobility Week, the canton of Basel-Stadt will be hosting another edition of Mobility Week in mid-September. The action aims to introduce you to environmentally friendly ways to get around in Basel and the three-country region by foot, bicycle, solar boat, tram, or electric car. The Basel Mobility Week will offer over 20 free activities and city tours that will make the diversity of sustainable mobility tangible. Come by, exchange ideas, and discover the festival of movement! You can try out, test, and experience new forms of mobility; move yourself and others; and make progress in becoming more sustainable with the Basel Mobility Week offers that are all free of charge.
On Thursday, there will be activities at several locations in Basel including city tours, sensory tours, old-time tram tours, and solar boat tours. You can register for the city tours at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/mobilitaetswochebasel. Also on Thursday, visitors are welcome to a special cinema experience starting at 19:30 at Petersplatz—the “Velokino” (bicycle-powered cinema) by VCS beider Basel and Pro Velo beider Basel, in cooperation with the 15th Films for the Earth Festival, will show the film "TROP CHAUD" (Too Hot) about the Klima-Seniorinnen.
On Friday (15:00-19:00), and Saturday (12:00-19:00), all are welcome to the festival grounds on Barfüsserplatz, where you can experience sustainable mobility and obtain comprehensive information from the over 30 partners that will be set up onsite. With these activities you can experience the challenges of mobility in a wheelchair, participate in a freestyle bike trial, master a course to test your skill on an e-scooter or cargo bike, skillfully stack wares on a cargo bike, or use the power of your legs to light up lamps at the mobile energy station, the "Blitz.” You can also get a plethora of information on the public transport offers from BVB and BLT, including what the tram network will look like in 2030; road safety with the cantonal police; the different types of electric scooters; the variety of mobility aids available for persons with impairments; the Mobility car sharing program; and the HitchHike's public carpooling program.
On the energy-independent solar stage at Barfüsserplatz, musical acts will provide entertainment on Friday and Saturday. This year's lineup includes Elena Gerster, Angry Strings, and Arbajo Jairus & Them Lovers! With the delicious food and drink offerings, you can strengthen yourself and linger on-site.
There will also be Italian delicacies from Skuderia and delicious gelati from Gelateria di Berna to round off your visit. Whether with family, friends, or just to meet like-minded people, come by and become part of the movement!
All campaigns of the Mobilitätswoche are all free of charge and can be visited spontaneously, although you may want to register for the free city tours online ahead of time as they have limited availability.
