Musical Wellness With Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord

La Cetra MusicArte Studio
Friday, 02 February
16:30 | 17:30 | 18:30 | 19:30

La Cetra Barockorchester & Vokalensemble Basel is presenting a series of intimate concerts entitled "Musical Wellness." The approximately 40-minute sessions are private concerts in a small, baroque-style room at their MusicArte studio. This series is also ideal for families with children to be able to experience live music up close.
The program on this afternoon features Teodoro Baù on viola da gamba and Andrea Buccarella on harpsichord, who will present the Sonatas for Viola da gamba and Harpsichord, BWV 1028 and BWV 1029, by Johann Sebastian Bach. During his lifetime, Bach knew how to combine the echoes of a musical tradition that was coming to an end during his lifetime and to reuse many old forms in an innovative format. In a sense, it can be said that he never succumbed to the fickleness of musical fashions that prevailed in his time, but he nevertheless introduced stylistic innovations that were later used by all the composers who followed him.
A clear example of this characteristic is a form that can be said with certainty to have been invented by him—the sonata for a melody instrument (in Bach's case, violin, flute, or viola da gamba) and a concertante keyboard instrument (in this case the harpsichord). In this genre, the keyboard instrument is not subordinate to the melody instrument, but participates in the musical events on an equal footing by having a concertante part. The two sonatas in this program are examples of this.
Tickets are CHF 50 for adults, CHF 25 for youths ages 15-18, and CHF 5 for kids up to age 14.
