Nachtklang II — Beethoven and Berwald “Unvarnished Historical”
In this concert, members of Kammerorchester Basel will present wonderful works for septet, historically orchestrated: Ludwig van Beethoven's op. 20 is one of the most famous chamber music pieces because it is so lively and varied. Virtuoso solos alternate with effective ensemble parts, the symphonic sound palette is combined with the intimate chamber music.
Franz Berwald, a Swedish composer, whose work dates back to the Romantic period and whose compositions were closely linked to Viennese Classicism, based his septet on Beethoven's, as can be heard in the violin's solo role. Berwald was not successful during his lifetime—his style was too unusual, and he was unsympathetic as a person. He was only rediscovered in the 20th century and has since been considered one of the most important Swedish composers of the 19th century.
Tickets are CHF 25 for adults and CHF 13 for youths and students.
