Naive Brazil

Brasilea Foundation
Ongoing Event
Wed., 11 June until Sun., 31 August

With “Naive Brazil,” the Brasilea foundation honors an art form that is not formed in schools, but in lives, and a collection that functions as a colorful archive of Brazilian life. Following the 2016 exhibition "Rio Naïf and the Olympic Games & Basel Brut and the Olympic Games," they once again present part of the Lucien Finkelstein collection from the former Museu Internacional de Arte Naif (MIAN) Rio.
Brazil's naive art takes you to a place where the world is still directly experienced—in colors, forms, and stories. The works in this exhibition are the results of a sensitive gaze. They reveal the beauty of the ordinary, the magic in the everyday, and the poetry of memory. They are poetic documents that speak of survival in Brazil's big cities, of faith in rituals, the richness of nature, and of a gaze that cannot be blinded.
