Nils Landgren Funk Unit — 30 Years and Still Alive & Kicking

When Nils Landgren launched his Funk Unit in 1994, many people asked: Who needs funk from Sweden? Today, 29 years, 10 albums and hundreds of concerts later, nobody asks that anymore. Because the answer is clear—if you want to hear the hottest European version of this music, which is inextricably linked with soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz, you can't get past this band. Even the pioneers, godfathers, and grands of the scene have been won over: James Brown's musical masterminds Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, Ray Parker Jr., and Joe Sample from the Crusaders have all played with the Funk Unit.
And the mission is far from over. This time you can hear the core group of the Funk Unit. A conspiratorial community that includes Magnum Coltrane Price on bass, who has been alongside Landgren from the very beginning and now also appears here as producer. They were gradually joined by Jonas Wall on tenor saxophone, Andy Pfeiler on guitar, Petter Bergander on keyboards, and Robert Ikiz on drums. What unites them is best expressed by the title of the new album—“Funk Is my Religion.”
Tickets are CHF 79.90-91.90 for seats and CHF 55.50 for standing room. Discounts apply to members of Bider & Tanner.
