Now Sing and Rejoice — Sing-Along Concert

Historisches Museum Basel - Barfüsserkirche
Sunday, 29 December
18:15

Well-known Christmas carols from the German-speaking Renaissance—they sound festive with the trombones of the Basler Posaunenchor and cornetos! The program includes Christmas carols such as “Joseph, lieber Joseph mein,” “In Dulci Jubilo,” and “Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen”—in the form in which they first appeared in the Renaissance, including Leonhard Schröter’s “Newe Weihnacht Liedlein” of 1587 and the famous arrangements by Michael Praetorius in his “Musae Sioniae” prints of 1605-1610.
ReRenaissance introduces listeners to Christmas carols in a variety of ways, from playful duo arrangements to double-choir versions with a chorus of cornetti and trombones. Above all, the movements printed in the program can be sung ad hoc!
ReRenaissance is a series of concerts that focuses on the music and culture of the Renaissance. These concerts celebrating "a renaissance of the renaissance" are performed by professional musicians from Basel.
The concert is free, but there will be a collection.
