Strolling through private gardens, exchanging ideas with other gardeners, getting some new inspiration, or just admiring how others create beautiful gardens in a wide variety of settings—all of this is possible with the project “Offener Garten” (open garden). Members of seven Swiss gardening and plant associations and the association Pro Igel (Pro-Hedgehog) open their garden gates and invite you for a visit on this weekend. More than 100 gardens all over Switzerland participate in this event, including 15 in the Basel area. To find a participating garden, go to their (German-only) website and click on the region of interest until you see the individual gardens on the map. A click on a specific garden will give you a description of the garden with some photos, their opening hours, address, contact information, and directions. Note that some of the gardens are also open at other times of the year; click on “Offene Gärten” to see a list of upcoming dates or to search for a specific location.
