The Vorstadttheater Basel presents sophisticated, professional, and contemporary theater for all generations. Their mainly German-language plays are intended to appeal to, challenge, and entertain children and adults in their respective worlds of experience. This applies to their own pieces as well as to guest performances. After more than 40 years in the historical St. Alban-Vorstadt, the Vorstadttheater Basel is moving into the Oekolampad community center at Allschwilerplatz for the 2024 season. Following three years of preparation and anticipation, the “new” Vorstadttheater Basel in the Oekolampad community center is opening on their 50th anniversary!
On this weekend, they will be celebrating this landmark in style. Starting at 14:00 on Saturday, there will be a lot to discover around the house and in the theater: Storm the bicycle stage that is waiting for you in front of the theater with costumes and a microphone. The Siebschmuck studio is visiting the theater with live screen printing and is looking forward to sprucing up your textiles. Last but not least, the theater house is open and can be visited by the curious. The installation “Les Espaces Cyclophones” and “Electric Poem #8” by the Belgian ensemble Evolplay will also be causing a stir, and will bring the opening celebrations to life in its own way with its redesigned, interactive bicycle constructions.
Fun and games around the installations are free; the Saturday performance of “Merlin oder das Wüste Land” at 20:00 requires advanced ticket purchase.
