Sat., 13 April until Sun., 18 August

This April, the new Kunsthaus Baselland in Münchenstein is complete and celebrating its grand opening. Designed by Buchner Bründler Architekten, the former champagne warehouse has been transformed into a venue for contemporary art. After 25 years at its site in Muttenz, the Kunstverein Baselland has found a new home in Münchenstein, in a vibrant neighborhood of art and cultural institutions, the Academy of Art and Design, and artists’ studios, as well as manufacturing businesses and a diverse community of residents.
However, an art center only becomes what it is through the artists who use and enrich it, together with the people who support and visit it. The title of the opening exhibition, “Rewilding,” refers to the former vibrant life of the warehouse and its immediate surroundings, symbolizing a great “rebirth” and renewed activation of creative and inspiring ideas by the invited artists. It is hoped that the new Kunsthaus will continue to serve as a starting point for new, as yet unseen and daring ideas by participating artists from near and far.
In line with Kunsthaus Baselland’s curatorial program of recent years, numerous artists from the region, Switzerland, and abroad have been invited to take part in the grand opening exhibition. For this exhibition, the invited artists have created numerous new productions and works for the new building, as well as contributions for the opening celebrations to mark the start of the Kunsthaus Baselland's new era. The exhibition is curated by Ines Goldbach together with the invited artists and made possible by the entire Kunsthaus team at all levels.
