Opera — Carmen
Seductive, independent, radical—“Carmen” is a product of overlapping myths. Sometimes she appears as a strong woman, sometimes as a projection screen for male fantasies of exoticism or as a clichéd image of the femme fatale. The Argentinean choreographer Constanza Macras is known for her political and humorous dance theater that transcends genre boundaries. For her first production of an opera classic, she takes on the myth of “Carmen” and brings out the revue side of Bizet's masterpiece. The award-winning conductor Maxime Pascal is appearing at Theater Basel for the first time.
The opera will be performed in French with German and English surtitles (dialogues in English) and lasts 3 hours with break.
Tickets are 30-145 for adults and CHF 20 for students and youths up to age 16.
