Opera — Rigoletto
An evil macho society is in power at the court of Mantua. The duke whiles away the hours of boredom with a long list of lovers and by humiliating his subordinates. Rigoletto, a lowly court jester, plays cynical jokes on his master's victims. But when his daughter, Gilda, attracts the attention of the Duke, Rigoletto's world comes crashing down. After “Don Carlos,” director Vincent Huguet and conductor Michele Spotti have acquainted themselves with yet another masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi. French star designer Pierre Yovanovitch came up with the idea for the stage design. Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann returns to Theater Basel to make her debut in the role of Gilda. This drama of jealousy in a world where outward appearances count will be performed in Italian with surtitles in English and German.
Tickets are CHF 30-140 for adults and CHF 20 for those under age 30.
