In this concert, which is part not only of the Organ Festival but also of the 2. Basel Choir Night, 200 participants will present highlights from the world of opera—with the organ taking the place of the orchestra.
What would opera be without the choirs? Whether fiery, as in Verdi’s "Il Torvatore;" longingly, as in "Nabucco;" heartfelt, as in Mozart’s "Idomeneo;" or rousing, as in Bizet’s "Carmen"—they are always right at the center of the action and tug at the audience’s heartstrings. Six Basel choirs are working together for this operatic gala. Soprano Larissa Angelini and tenor Rolf Romei are adding to the evening’s shine. Babette Mondry magically transforms the orchestral parts into an organ version through the organ’s fascinating sound palette.
