Oriental Gala — Anouar Brahem Quartet Feat. Dave Holland

Arguably the greatest oud player in the world is presenting his new ECM CD with these fantastic musicians as a Swiss premiere. Brahem first performed at the offbeat Festival in 1999. For many years, Brahem has continued the ancient tradition of Arabic music, the main characteristic of which is outstanding finesse. He contrasts the free spirit of improvisation so typical of modern jazz with the sophisticated harmonies of the learned composition tradition of the West and the sophisticated compositional forms of other ancient cultural traditions from the Orient. Brahem and his fellow musicians create a gently refined, graceful, and dreamlike world that is as much borrowed from the contemplative oriental tradition as from jazz. One of these fellow musicians who best embodies the offbeat anniversary is bassist Dave Holland, who has given many memorable concerts in Basel since 1977.The resulting music is a wonderfully intimate spiritual journey to the heart of sound.
Tickets are CHF 37.20-92.90. Consider a combi ticket for both back-to-back concerts on this night at the Stadtcasino Basel for CHF 51.40-107.90. (https://www.offbeat-concert.ch/35.-festival/kombiticket-kyle-eastwood-und-anouar-brahem).
