Philip Catherine / Martin Wind Duo

Philip Catherine and Martin Wind's musical journey together began in 2013 with an invitation to release an album in the ACT record label's "Duo Art" series. They recorded mainly originals, but also standards such as "Old Folks" and "How Deep Is the Ocean," as well as other compositions by Dexter Gordon ("Fried Bananas") and Paul McCartney ("Jenny Wren").
Since then, the duo has regularly performed on the stages of European concert halls, clubs, and festivals, and a performance at the Kitano Jazz Club was chosen as one of the "Top Five Live Concerts 2016" by "New York City Records Magazine." In 2019, they invited another European jazz icon, the Dutch trumpeter Ack van Rooyen, to join them for their second album "White Noise.” The album was described in the press as a "masterpiece in the European league of jazz" and received a 4-star review in Downbeat Magazine.
Catherine, now almost 80 years old, has been one of the leading representatives of the European jazz scene since the 1960s and became known through his collaborations with numerous jazz greats.
Wind was born in Flensburg in 1968, studied classical double bass in Cologne, and moved to New York City 25 years ago. In 1995 he won third prize at the International Thelonious Monk Bass Competition in Washington, DC, and in 2000 he received the Culture Prize of his home state of Schleswig-Holstein. Like Catherine, he has played with numerous jazz legends, and as a member of the Kennedy Center Honors Orchestra has accompanied world stars such as Aretha Franklin, Reneé Fleming, James Taylor, and John Legend.
Tickets are CHF 45 for adults and CHF 15 for students.
