Project Agora Music Festival

Project Agora is a post-genre festival founded in Basel that represents a new Basel platform conceived to create a dialogue between people of all ages, backgrounds, and preferences through music and to broaden their perception by offering new sound experiences by bringing new acoustic experiences to life. It is a space in which the boundaries between different styles of music blur, creating new blends. New colors emerge for which we do not yet have names. They invite established as well as up-and-coming representatives of different genres and cultures to collaborate over a longer period of time and to create new works for the festival. The team of Project Agora aims to curate interesting encounters between artists that would not otherwise arise, and to connect Swiss musicians nationally and internationally. The fourth edition of the festival takes place from May 2-4, with two or three concerts each day at one location. On this evening, there will be three concerts:
* Alexia Thomas at 20:00. With its blend of experimental elements, electronic sounds, precise sound design, and English lyrics, the music of Alexia Thomas transports you beyond everyday life and invites you to explore unknown worlds. She delves into the realms of indie and dream pop, exploring dreamscapes and utopias. No clear direction, no smooth edges, no fixed rules—the music is like Thomas: open to everything. Her art exists beyond labels and categories; it can be anything but doesn’t have to be. Her music can be melancholic, sometimes even sad—yet at the same time full of hope, without revealing how it evokes these emotions.
* Arthur Hnatek X Barker at 20:45. In a performance that bridges the worlds of experimental electronica, sophisticated drumming, and boundary-pushing dance music, Swiss drummer and composer Arthur Hnatek joins forces with British musician Barker. This collaboration promises a hypnotic, unique experience where Hnatek’s dynamic, intricate drumming, and modular synthesizers merge with Barker’s visionary approach to danceable yet unconventional electronic music.
* Iuri X Pistache at 22:15. In a convergence of raw artistry and emotive storytelling, pistache (Luca Koch) and iuri (Juri Schmidhauser) share the stage for a collaboration that bridges the avant-garde with heartfelt introspection. The powerful interplay between pistache’s multidisciplinary approach—where voice, body, and Theremin interlace across jazz, electro-pop, classical, and free improvisation—and iuri’s emotionally charged music, shaped by themes of identity and uncertainty, promises a memorable and transformative performance experience.
Tickets are 23-32 in advance (CHF 26-35 at the box office) for a single evening, or CHF 50 for the festival pass, which includes all three evenings.
