Deliberately only one year after the 100th birthday of Loriot, alias “Vicco” v. Bülow, the Basler Marionetten Theater will stage a program of his sketches, interviews, and speeches, entitled “Die Ente bleibt draussen!” (The duck stays out!) after a line in one of his best-known sketches.
Legendary as well as almost forgotten characters will be brought back to life using a wide variety of puppet types: from hand puppets to large figures, from comic-like table figures to shadow puppetry—a veritable potpourri of possibilities that puppet theater can offer. This puppet revue is led by a director who often pushes the boundaries of what is possible, but is able to overcome them in an imaginative way thanks to the concentrated presence of subtle humor and the joy of the actors on stage.
Over the 90 minute program, it becomes clear just how much these texts and scenes by Loriot call out to be performed with puppets. The Basler Marionetten Theater has now answered this call, for a subtle and amusing rendezvous with the timeless works Loriot.
Tickets are CHF 40 for adults and CHF 30 for children and students.
