Participation in the solo piano competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2006 marked the start of an international career for the Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez. Because that's when producer legend Quincy Jones discovered the then-21-year-old and became his mentor; he has been co-producing his records ever since. Rodriguez studied classical piano before turning to jazz. Soon after the Montreux performance he formed his first trio. He has been living in Los Angeles for a long time and pursues his artistic activities from there, including performances with the greats of jazz. In his repertoire, he likes to mix Cuban classics with his own compositions, but evergreens such as "Guantanamera," "Bésame mucho," and "Quizás, quizás, quizás" appear in a completely new light. After all, his arrangement of "Guantanamera" earned him a Grammy nomination. The Rodriguez Trio with Yahel Hernandez on bass and Michael Oliveira is one of the best in Latin jazz.
Tickets are CHF 49.40-86.90 for seats and CHF 38.20 for standing room.
