Throughout his career, tenor saxophonist Ralph Moore has recorded and performed with numerous jazz stars, including Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Ray Brown, Roy Haynes, and many more. Moore has released several critically acclaimed albums on the Landmark (now 32 Jazz), Criss Cross, Concord, Reservoir, and Savoy labels.
He moved to Los Angeles in the '90s and performed in the band on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for 15 years. During this time, he never gave up the purity of passion that drives him every day and has collaborated in several cooperative jazz quartets and quintets. One of them was aptly called Escape from New York, and featured his Tonight Show colleagues, drummer Marvin “Smitty” Smith and bassist Bob Hurst.
With The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno well behind him, Moore is ready to return to who he naturally is—a jazz musician playing and creating the music he loves. Recent performances include concerts with drummer Willie Jones' quartet at Jazz at Lincoln Center and collaborations with artists such as Jeremy Pelt, Lewis Nash, Eric Reed, and Roy McCurdy. Later this year, Moore will embark on a quintet tour of Israel with pianist Tamir Hendelman to celebrate the 100th birthday of saxophonist Dexter Gordon.
