Rebekka Bakken Solo — Winter Nights
When Rebekka Bakken sings, you know very quickly that you are listening to one of Scandinavia's most impressive voices—she is a vocal sensation! Far removed from all genre boundaries, the singer/songwriter has outgrown all pigeonholes and allows stylistic influences from all corners, be it the folklore of her homeland or country & western from the distant USA. She pays tribute to Tom Waits and Ludwig Hirsch with cover versions. Many of her compositions carry her own biography within them, and together with her announcements, a picture emerges of a highly emotional woman who is able to pour out all the facets of her soul to the audience in the highest art of singing. Her voice is sometimes gentle and loving, sometimes snotty, attacking, shrill, and loud. Bakken writes and sings from the depths of her soul, instinctively and openly, and thus hits you right in the middle of your emotional world, you feel directly addressed.
Bakken has created music as magical as the winter landscape of Norway. She translates the archaic tranquility of deep blue fjords, the meditative solitude of snow-covered spruce forests, and the dreamlike sublime glow of the northern lights in her own songs and selected cover songs into a winter Christmas evening full of deep emotions. With her typical sound between Norwegian picturesque singer-songwriter borrowings and modern European jazz, she creates a concert program that unfolds its power from reduction. Bakken places her voice directly in the foreground, which, with refined and reduced arrangements solo on the piano, provides the intimate sound bed for a concert full of deeply felt emotions.
Tickets are CHF 30.00-66.70.
