ReRenaissance Basel — At Home With Milan & Galileo

The lute began its triumphal march in Europe as early as the 15th century but finally attained its status as "queen of instruments" in the 16th century, inspiring renowned virtuosos in all European countries of the time. 2025 marks the 525th anniversary of the birth of Luys de Milán, the Spanish master of the lute and vihuela; it also is the 500th year of Vincenzo Galilei, lutenist and father of the even more famous Galileo Galilei. This is reason enough for a new edition of the "Basel Lute Course" in which audience members journey through multiple mini-concerts, staged in the rooms of a historical Basel mansion.
ReRenaissance is a series of concerts that focuses on the music and culture of the Renaissance. These concerts celebrating "a renaissance of the renaissance" are performed by professional musicians from Basel.
The concert is free, but there will be a collection.
