ReRenaissance Basel — Continental Connections

Historisches Museum Basel - Barfüsserkirche
Sunday, 24 March
18:15

Robert Dow's beautiful set of five tuning books is a treasure trove for lovers of Byrd, White, and Tallis. However, a small proportion of these books also contain other musical treasures written abroad and brought to England in the 1580s, passed from hand to hand and carefully entered into personal music collections. In particular, the music of Philip van Wilder, Alfonso Ferrabosco, and Orlando di Lasso must have appealed to Mr. Dow, who collected and preserved them along with their English counterparts. The various repertoire stories provide an insight into the influence of foreign musicians at the English court and the music they brought with them.
ReRenaissance is a series of concerts that focuses on the music and culture of the Renaissance. These concerts celebrating "a renaissance of the renaissance" are performed by professional musicians from Basel.
The concert is free, but there will be a collection.
