ReRenaissance Basel — Jouissance Vous Donneray. A painting Comes to Life

Historisches Museum Basel - Barfüsserkirche
Sunday, 26 May
18:15

A Flemish painting shows a musical ensemble from around 1530: transverse flute, lute, singing. And if you look closely, you will recognize the notes of the chanson "Jouissance vous donneray" by Claudin de Sermisy (~1490-1562) in the open part of the book, which sets a poem by Clement Marot (~1496-1544) to music. Sermisy is best known today for his highly refined chansons, most of which were printed in Paris by Pierre Attaignant between 1528 and 1533. This genre became extremely popular in Western Europe during the 16th century, as numerous instrumental arrangements prove. The dialogue between Sermisy's chansons and Marot's texts forms the core of this program and represents a rich spectrum of human emotions.
ReRenaissance is a series of concerts that focuses on the music and culture of the Renaissance. These concerts celebrating "a renaissance of the renaissance" are performed by professional musicians from Basel.
The concert is free, but there will be a collection.
