ReRenaissance Basel — What I Sing to You
In the 16th and 17th centuries, people could not only read what was happening in the world around them, but above all hear it. All kinds of news was brought to market by specialized printers such as Johann Schröter from Basel, performed by street singers in the streets or in pubs, and sold to the public as a handy brochure for them to sing along to. Such song pamphlets are a hitherto little-noticed genre of news from the early modern period, but above all they represent an incredibly rich musical repertoire. They will be brought to life in this concert entitled “Was ich euch singen thu!” (What I sing to you!), which has been organized in cooperation with Dr. Jan-Friedrich Missfelder and the University of Basel.
ReRenaissance is a series of concerts that focuses on the music and culture of the Renaissance. These concerts celebrating "a renaissance of the renaissance" are performed by professional musicians from Basel.
The concert is free, but there will be a collection.
