Rhythm of Kizomba in Basel

Saturday, 29 June

Basel is a melting pot of cultural heritages, and the African traditions hold a special place in this mosaic. The rhythms of Angolan music and the expressive movements of Kizomba and Semba have woven themselves into the fabric of this city. These dance forms are more than just entertainment—they are powerful cultural expressions that tell stories, evoke emotions, and preserve traditions.
Dino Da Cruz is an Angolan storyteller, cultural ambassador, and whirlwind of energy on the dance floor. He has played a pivotal role in bringing these vibrant elements to life in Basel, enriching the local cultural scene. His journey with Kizomba and Semba is a tale of passion, precision, and pure heart. Growing up in Angola, Da Cruz was immersed in the vibrant rhythms and heartfelt melodies of Semba, thanks to his first teacher and mentor: his mother, a passionate Semba dancer herself. She instilled in him the foundations of Semba and a deep appreciation for its history, movements, and cultural significance. But Da Cruz’s contribution goes beyond the dance floor. He has dedicated himself to teaching and advocating for Kizomba and Semba within the Basel community. Through workshops, performances, and cultural presentations, Dino has nurtured a growing appreciation for these art forms, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate and preserve this rich cultural heritage.
The Izomba International Kizomba Experience on June 29 is your golden ticket to experience the magic of Kizomba and Semba firsthand in Basel. Whether you’re an expat or a local, a dance enthusiast, or someone just looking to have a great time.
