Kenta Igarashi, born in 2002 of Japanese and Ukrainian decent, began his saxophone and piano studies at age 7. Igarashi has won more than 30 international competitions, including the first prize at the European Saxophone Forum 2019 (Wroclaw, Poland); Yamaha Music Gulf Scholarship 2020; and the first prize, the Japan Prime Minister Award, and special grand prize in the 37th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition 2022.
On this evening, he will be playing saxophone, accompanied by a pianist at the Hans Huber-Saal of the Stadtcasino Basel. On the program will be Johannes Brahms’ Clarinet Sonata No. 2 in E flat major, op. 120; from Astor Piazzolla’s “Histoire du Tango” the pieces “Bordel 1900” and Night club 1960;” César Franck’s Violin Sonata in A major (arr. for saxophone and piano); and François Borne’s Fantaisie brilliante sur “Carmen” (arr. for saxophone and piano).
