20:15

On this evening, Jazz Festival Basel will be presenting a concert entitled “Greece & Jazz.”
Savina Yannatou, born 1959 in Athens, is one of Greece's most renowned singers and composers, a prominent voice in Thessaloniki. In her youth, she studied classical guitar for several years and sang in a choir. As an adult, Yannatou studied voice at the National Conservatory of Athens and at Spyros Sakkas's Vocal Studio. She then attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 1980, her first CD, "Edo Lilipouli," featuring children's songs, was released. She has also performed in works by modern Greek composers, such as the opera "Erotokritos e Aretousa" by Nikos Mamangakis. Since 1983, she has collaborated with the Studio for Early Music, which performs works from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods on period instruments. With her CD "Aniksi sti Saloniki (Primavera en Salonico)," she explored the tradition of Sephardic music. This led to the formation of the ensemble Primavera en Salonico with Kyriakos Gouventas, Yannis Alexandris, Mihalis Siganidis, Harris Lambrakis, and Kostas Theodorou, under the direction of Kostas Vomvolos, which is dedicated to the music of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Their first CD was released in 1998. Furthermore, Yannatou has since become a renowned interpreter of classical world music.
Tickets are CHF 39.20-89.90.
