Schumann and Beethoven

Landgasthof Riehen
Sunday, 26 March
17:00

The amateur orchestra "Philharmonic Orchestra Riehen" was founded in 2004 and has since become an integral part of the cultural life of Riehen and the region. Their goal is to put together appealing programs, some of which include lesser-known works. They enable advanced amateurs to experience the sound body of an orchestra and offer young talents a platform for solo concerts. The conductor is a professional violinist and "trains" the orchestra both musically and pedagogically with a lot of feeling and verve, and that has an impact. The orchestra’s sound has constantly been refined, intensified, and becomes richer in nuances, stronger or more subtle—which is precisely what the musical interpretation demands. With musicians from neighboring Lörrach (D) and St-Louis (F), the orchestra now also performs across borders.
On this evening, they will be playing Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in D minor, WoO 23, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D major, op. 36. Solo violinist is Egidius Streiff.
