Schweizer Schlössertag (Swiss Castles Day)
Switzerland is a land of many castles, fortresses, noble houses, and domains, once built and inhabited by the upper class. Many have been well-preserved or meticulously restored and are wonderful places to visit for a glimpse into the country’s past, one that simultaneously screams luxury and difficult conditions. At the same time, the necessity to defend oneself against uncertain attack was a daily concern. The 7th National Castle Day of the Schweizer Schlösser Association is dedicated to food. Under the motto "Essen!" (Eat!), 28 castles and fortresses in Switzerland will be rolling out the red carpet to the public, inviting them to get an insight into how life in the castles used to be. There are varied hands-on programs for young and old, guided tours (some also in English), games, fun, and many culinary specialties.
